Electronics started off with components called valves ir vaccum tubes, which was primarily used for rectification, aplification and switching, the same thing that diodes and transistors are doing today on semiconductor decvices, and inside the processors of our computers.
When semiconductors became popular the vaccum tubes became out of fashion and the huge bulks were replaced by tiny transistors. But the only tube that lasted long enough until the recent past is the picture tube or the cathode ray tube, and that got replaced by LCD screens recently.
In the old CRT tvs, an electron bean is deflected across screens, while on lcd tvs samsung, crystals are made opaque and transparant to show colors. The sizes of these crystals can be made very small and thus the screen resolution can be highly increased.
The life we are leading today is really supported by electronic devices. About 20 years ago if I had a walkman to play music while I was travelling I was a very happy kid, but I can’t imagine travelling just with a walkman. I don’t care about entertainment, I need to run my business. I need my laptop, my blackberry and of course a walkman mp3 player to listen to music when I am not blogging on replying to emails. All these electronic devices run on batteries, and the most used part on any electronic device is the battery as no matter which function of a device you use, it draws power from the battery. So if you use your phone to play games, talk, text or email, it is the battery that powers the function. Keyboard contributes too, but it is not an active component. And therefore all batteries need replacement at times. Not eveyr device has a reliable replacement batter in their supply chains, except perhaps samsung cell phone batteries.

Escavations reveal that ancient people of Bagdad used batteries made of copper and iron plates and orange or grape juice for electrolyte. This evolved into batteries for electroplating, lighting bulbs, and when energy started to get generated in massive scales, the market for electronics grew. Our life depends on electronics these days, and if you are a person who has not a single electronic equipment with you, you would probably pass for a caveman.
Electronics are fairly easy to understand, and the whole world makes electronic stuff, but only a few companies like Samsung maintain te balance between low prices and good quality.
