gos – The Google OsGoogle has extended its hands into everything related to the web. They have a search engine which is the best in the world, they have a free mail service called gmail which is also the best, and better than most paid email services in the world, they have blogger, froogle, a translation tool, adwords, adsense etc etc etc.
For desktop, the last thing I expected them to make was an OS. And that too, an OS which is a derivative of ubuntu. A completely free operating system, if distributed by google, who wouldn’t start using it? And with a team like google’s what software will not be available for this thats available on Windows?
Is this the end of Microsoft? Is that Bill whom the Oracle sees in the near future begging on the streets of Redmond?
gos, which is called the good OS primarily, is a product of Google and a derivative of ubuntu. Google has customized it in a great way. The Live CD has surprised me fairly. Its just a 650 MB ISO. Download it and give it a try.
I will come up with more updates on this soon. The Beauty of Life is here I guess.

Digital Photo FramesThe usual practise is, you go to a photo studio, sit before a rear projection of a monument or some other nice looking place, and take a picture, frame it, and keep it beside your bed, and lie to your newly married wife that you have actually been to that place when you had taken that photo.
Well, now, you can do more of that lying with digital photo frames. The frames aren’t digital, they are plain old wooden frames. However, you dont have to place the photo into it. Its a Digital LCD Screen.
Its got a card reader, a USB port, a remote control to change pictures, and good backlighting so that you could see the pictures in darkness too.
The idea of a digital photo frame is that you just make a photo that you would like on your frame with a photo editing software, and connect your computer with usb to the frame, and transfer the data, and you will find the image being displayed on it. The number of images that can be swapped will depend on the size of the memory that you would use on the frame.
And unlike in your regular photo frame, you can play videos, audio, and even create a slide show of your pictures.

How Does it Work

Isko laga dala, to life jingalala. Opensource Television programmes for about 400 bucks a month. I bought a Tatasky set tap bax and the diss andanaa for about 4000 bucks about a year back, and not for a single day I have been able to enjoy DVD quality picture and CD quality sound for 1 single day, and what I really get is DD (Doordarshan) quality picture, and Pirated CD quality sound.
I felt really bad one day and was wondering if I could have just stuck with the cable TV system which offered about 80 channels only but with appericiable quality and mono sound.
Last night there was a heavy rain in Pondichery, and I was trying to watch a Showcase Event, a movie called Naqaab. Sound wasn’t very good, Dont blame my TV, its not LCD or Plasma, but a very good CRT tv. When the rain became heavier and heavier, the signal just went off, and the tv screen started saying, No Signal.
I went on to shuffle some settings and found out that there was still about 80% signal strength, but the signal quality is 0. What a pity. A 4 ft Dish antenna cant pickup frequencies in GHz just because of some heavy rain. Electronics guys should know that frequencies in GHz, or Microwaves dont really get affected by anything.
Well, that was a Showcase event wasted. And time. And money ofcourse. You get DVD quality Picture only from your DVD player, and CD quality sound only from your CD player.
I wonder what DishTV has got to offer.
